The Houston Texans got some rest on Wednesday.
That wasn't true of the entire roster, because the Texans did practice on Wednesday in preparation for the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, but after two losses in three games, several key players missed practice Wednesday with part of the idea to gain what coach Gary Kubiak said was needed rest.
Among players missing practice Wednesday:
Defensive end [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans, linebacker Brian Cushing and wide receiver Jacoby Jones.
"A lot of those guys are the guys who are playing 60-70 snaps a game," Kubiak said Wednesday. "We'll see where we're at tomorrow, but I thought it made sense today to just give them a break [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and try to get them as healthy as they can."
The Texans had 16 players on their injury report Wednesday, with 10 our or not practicing:
Linebacker Xavier Adibi (hamstring, limited), safety Dominique Barber (ribs, limited), linebacker Kevin Bentley knee, did not practice), guard Mike Brisiel (knee, DNP), Cushing (knee, DNP), wide receiver Dorin Dickerson (knee, DNP), running back Arian Foster (knee, limited), wide receiver Andre Johnson (ankle, limited), Jones (calf, DNP), Sherrick McManis (hamstring, DNP), defensive end Jesse Nading (knee, out), safety Bernard Pollard (neck, full), Ryans (groin, DNP), linebacker Darryl Sharpton (ankle, full), running back Derrick Ward (ribs, limited) and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] (shoulder, DNP).
Mostly on Wednesday, Kubiak talked about being able to put last week in the past. The Texans lost to the New York Giants, 34-10, at home Sunday. That came two weeks after a 27-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at Reliant Stadium.
Kubiak talked Monday about the need for consistency for a team that had won three of its first four games in impressive fashion, and on Wednesday, he spoke like a coach ready to move forward.
"It's good to get back to work," Kubiak said. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]"When things don't go good, and you don't play good, the one good thing about this league is you get to go back and do it again. I am looking forward to having a chance to go back and fix (the mistakes)."
Kubiak on Wednesday also specified [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] that he was unhappy with the return game.
"It's been very poor," he said. "It hasn't been good enough."
