Joe Namath is not a McNabb fan
But if Shanahan does turn to Grossman when the Redskins return from their bye week, Namath predicts there will be trouble in the locker room. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Namath thinks the reason the Redskins benched McNabb had nothing to do with his conditioning or expertise in the 2-minute drill. "They're not happy with the way McNabb's been playing. It's that simple but they have nowhere else to go at this point."
But when it comes to Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, Joe Namath doesn't think McNabb (who was benched Sunday for Rex Grosssman by Redskins coach Mike Shanahan), is now, or ever was, a great quarterback[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Despite McNabb leading former team the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX and five NFC Championship games, the MVP of Super Bowl III said no:
"You go to Rex Grossman, excuse me, the players will revolt. You gotta put your best guy on the field."--Michael McCarthy
"I never did. A good quarterback? Yes. A guy you'd want on your team? Yes, for his commitment and effort. But if he had the throwing accuracy of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] or the throwing accuracy of Tom Brady or Manning, a few of those guys, yeah, you could call him great. Because it is hard enough just to survive taking the beating that he's taken over the years. That NFC East is a tough place,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], man. And Philadelphia, it's a wonderful sports town but it's cold over there playing. He's been through so much, man, I hope he does regenerate and come back and they make that marriage a happy one at least for the rest of the year."
Tom Brady of the New England Patriots? Check. Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of the San Francisco 49ers? Check and check.
During his weekly Sirius NFL Radio show, The Broadway Blitz with Joe Namath, the former New York Jets quarterback was asked by co-host Adam Schein if he still considers McNabb a great QB after his benching.
