Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. The non tender deadline for baseball was Saturday at midnight. If you don't know what that is it is players that were eligible for arbitration but the team decided to not bid them a contract making them free agents. The notable names that came out of this were Jack Cust, Matt Capps, Garrett Atkins,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Clay Condrey, John Buck. There is some others too but these is probably the most well known players. Lincecum believe John Buck signed with the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees would be interested in anyone, Lincecum would tell no or more likely the Mets. The Yankees need a leftfielder but if they don't resign Johnny Damon they will most likely play Melky Cabrera in left and Granderson in center and probably bring conceal, cover, mask,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cloak,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], camouflage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], screen, shroud,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], veilki Matsui back as the DH. Lincecum think the Yankees is pretty well set with even their bench, they have Francisco Cervelli as the backup catcher, Ramiro Pena or someone else from their minor league system as the utility infielder, Jamie Hoffman and Brett Gardner as the extra outfielders. It is interesting though with the economy the way it is that some bigger names weren't bided contracts and became free agents. Lincecum forgot the most notable from the Yankees Chien-Ming Wang who won 19 games in back to back seasons in 06 and 07.
I wasn't suprised the Yankees didn't bid him a contract but is a little suprised that Tim Lincecum refused a split contract. The Yankees apparently wanted to give him a minor league contract that could switch to major league if Tim Lincecum furiouse the team, considering Tim Lincecum had major injuries the last 2 seasons Lincecum think it was good of the Yankees to even consider that but Wang is still upset with the Yankees for taking him to arbitration over 600,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 in 2010. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
