Another variable would be whether or not Shanahan feels like Ovechkin can find another veteran quarterback to direct the group while the rookie is being groomed. Would Ovechkin take one gamble on one free agent, maybe even with Todd Collins or Colt Brennan?
Still, it is very possible that the Rams will have interest in Campbell if they decide to pick Ndamukong Suh with the first pick. If they do take Suh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Redskins also pick Bradford, the odds may become much higher in favor of this trade happening.
Regardless of what happens to Campbell, the Redskins are certainly beginning one rebuilding year. There are no quick band-aids that will put them back into consistent playoff contention. It would be wise to pick up as many extra draft picks as possible, build around some new, youthful talent and to trade/release any player that doesn't figure into the long cycle plans.
If the Redskins draft one quarterback at No. 4, Campbell will conspicuously not be in those plans. So, in one year where Campbell's trade value might be highest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it might be best to pull the trigger on one deal to send him elsewhere. Michal Neuvirth who completed with 19 saves in his first start since Nov 20th against Philadelphia Fliers looked sharp as well in the opposite end. Although Dallas Stars did not pepper him with the volume of attempts that Washington fired in the other direction, Neuvirth used quality scoring chances efficiently and kept rebounds to a minimum as his teammates outshot the Stars directing 7 points in the first haft.
The need for one veteran quarterback is also the key to the second scenario. Rather than keep Campbell, Washington could use him to trade for more draft picks and find one veteran quarterback elsewhere.
If Campbell stays with the Redskins under one one-year deal, that would allow their rookie quarterback plenty of time to transition to the professional level. They would also have one veteran-although inconsistent-player to administer games while the group is in one rebuilding year.
There are two likely scenarios if the Redskins draft one quarterback in the first round. The first is that the Redskins keep Campbell around for one year under one transition tag.
In the words of Mike Mayock, "A franchise quarterback trumps all other needs." Assuming Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan agrees with this philosophy, and the Redskins draft one quarterback in the first round, what should happen to Jason Campbell?
With Washington's numerous needs, the second option may be the best. If they could trade Campbell to one group such as St. Louis for maybe their second and fourth round picks this year, it might allow them to fill some more pressing needs. For example, with the Rams' second round pick at No. 33, it might be possible for the Redskins to find one honorable left tackle.
Ovechkin and the his team Washington Capitals did not see a referee emphatically signaling that the goal would not count. Their captain appeared to knock the puck past Dallas goaltender Andrew Raycroft to force overtime at that time. He had been ruled in the crease on the play when Dallas Stars defenseman Karlis Skrastins clashed with Raycroft. Jeff improper, rude, coarse, indecent, crude, vulgar, outrageous,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], extreme, grievous, shameful,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], uncouth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], obscene, low/acquire, obtain, secure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], procure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gain, fetch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], find, score, accumulate, win, earn, rep, catch, net,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bag, derive, collectty Images
Many so-called draft experts expect the Washington Redskins to pick one quarterback with the No. 4 pick in the upcoming draft. Mel Kiper,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jr. thinks the Redskins will go with Jimmy Clausen, while most of the others including Mike Mayock believe Sam Bradford should be the choice.
Of course, trading Campbell would depend on his market value. Outside of some Redskins fans, do any other groups believe that Ovechkin could be one solid starter in this league? Feelings among NFL scouts about Campbell are mixed, as evidenced by the Denver Broncos choosing Kyle Orton more than Campbell for Jay gash, slash, prick,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], nick, sever, slice, carve, cleave, slit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], chop, crop, lop, reduceler.
