Temat postu: said acting Secretary of Health
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Being vaccinated against the flu is one of the best ways for Pennsylvanians to protect their health and the health of their loved ones, the Department of Health said today.
· Keep frequently used surfaces such as knobs, countertops and desks clean.
· Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Department of Health Encourages Pennsylvanians to Get Vaccinated for Flu
"With the flu season just getting started in Pennsylvania,

, now is an ideal time to get a flu shot," said acting Secretary of Health
Michael Huff Jersey
. "The strains included in this year's vaccine are very well matched to those that are causing disease around the country."
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has now expanded the influenza vaccination recommendations for the 2010-11 flu season to include all individuals six months of age and older.
This year's seasonal influenza vaccine provides protection against three types of flu: 2009 pandemic H1N1, influenza A/H3N2 and influenza B.
"There is plenty of vaccine available this year and it is our goal to get as many people vaccinated as possible," added
Michael Huff Jersey
. "Vaccination is by far the most effective way to reduce the number of Pennsylvanians who will come down with the flu this winter."
Individuals seeking influenza vaccine are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or call 1-877- PA HEALTH. For more information on seasonal influenza, visit
www.health.state.pa.us.

also suggested taking the following steps to help prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory illnesses:
· Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and immediately discard the used tissue. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve, but never into your hands or onto bare skin.

The flu can cause severe illness and life-threatening complications in many people. Nationwide, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related complications each year and thousands of deaths are reported.
· Keep your hands away from your face and do not touch your mouth, nose and eyes.
· Stay home from work or school whenever you are sick to avoid infecting others. For the flu, stay home until at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
