| Argentina's UN Ambassador Jorge Arguello on Wednesday hailed the "undeniable" importance of the Group of 77 (G77) as his country took over the chairmanship of the intergovernmental group. Tiffany
Arguello delivered a statement on behalf of Argentina's Foreign Minister and incoming Chairman of the Group of 77 (G77) and China Hector Marcos Timerman, at a press conference here. Timerman will replace outgoing G77 Chairman Abdullah M. Alsaidi, ambassador of Yemen to the UN Wedding dresses, whose one-year term expired in December 2010. The Group of 77 is a coalition of 131 developing UN member states, plus China, that aims to promote collective economic interests and gain leverage within the international community. The group represents the largest intergovernmental organization of developing states in the United Nations. "We think there is a very important role to be played by our group in the international arena, we are ready to assume this position, to do the most possible constructive work in attending the interests of the developing world Tiffany," said Arguello. The ambassador indicated that Argentina's top priorities during its year-long chairmanship would include reformulation of the international financial system, combating the effects of climate change and promoting south-south cooperation. The world community must renew its efforts in addressing the development needs of poorer nations, he said. |
