Derek Anderson Clings to Starting Job During Week of QB Shake-Ups
The name has changed, but the controversy hasn't gone away.
Two games into their season without [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] calling the signals, the Arizona Cardinals are wondering what to do with the man who replaced him, Derek Anderson.
His accuracy has left much to be desired, and the question now is how long coach Ken Whisenhunt feels he can go without making a move,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], something about half a dozen other clubs have already done.
The Cardinals had signed Anderson to a two-year, $7.25 million contract that included a $2.5 million signing bonus in the offseason when the supply of available quarterbacks was thinning out. That left room for letting [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] go and saving some money. But his first two games have seen Anderson at less than his best, including just 1-for-9 on third and fourth down. Whisenhunt doesn't seem ready to pull the trigger with the backups behind Anderson, as they are basically unschooled in the ways of the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. But they need to get more out of Anderson, a career 53 percent passer with the ability to zip the ball down the field but hasn't yet showed the touch the team would like to see.
It would help their quarterback if the Cardinals' receiving corps was something other than what it is -- Larry Fitzgerald and a young group of wide receivers. Fitzgerald still isn't healthy as he tries to come back from a knee sprain, and most of the rest of are unproven.
