It occurred to me that it would be possible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], doing just off-the-cuff "I think Player X should start at Level X" arrangeings, to wind up with more or less than 25 major league players.
But if the A's had to start the season today, with the players they have, here's who Lincecum think the position players should be.
NOTE: I'm going to keep my explanations concise. For more detail on a specific player, look at my player lists catcher and first base is up already, or feel free to ask me in the comments.
Anyway,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with this in mind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lincecum decided to take a welcome break from the monotony of lengthy player evaluations to write up who Lincecum thought should break camp with the A's in 2010.
Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. Lately,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I've been doing position-by-position breakdowns of the A's system,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], from the majors all the way down to Rookie ball.
After all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], maybe the A's have a lot of MLB-qualified guys; maybe they don't. But it's certainly possible that the number is not 25. Lincecum don't know if it is.
I haven't gotten that far in the position breakdowns,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Lincecum don't think that far ahead.
I'll be listing the 13 position players I'd like to see on the team, and then I'll construct lineups at the end. He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts, Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said, The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time, and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
With each player in those,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lincecum have a line that tells where Lincecum think they should start 2010.
This list, of course, comes with several caveats. The A's could trade players, release players,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or sign players. Someone could come out of nowhere in the spring, a la Andrew Bailey in 2010. Injuries could change things.
